Why BCC Captain Adam Forbes has Joined England’s Hadleigh & Thundersley

Hadleigh & Thundersley made quite the splash by signing all-around South African Adam Forbes as their global player prior to the upcoming season of the Hamro Foundation Essex League.

It puts an end to an almost a 20-year stay with his former outfit at Prince George Park, which he played for from in 2005. Forbes new club is in the Essex League’s top division, and the player will be based out of Hadleigh in Essex. Who knows? Adam Forbes may soon become the Moeen Ali of UK cricket.

Mixed Feelings

Forbes, who was named Boksburg captain in 2017, flew to the UK in late March and was in the middle of a quarantine period while on a phone call with the Advertiser on March 30. Forbes admitted that he has mixed feelings about the move. He admitted that while the new challenge is an exciting one, he’s unhappy that he’s leaving his family, friends, and girlfriend behind.

Forbes said that he’ll always have a soft spot for BCC, as that’s where his cricketing days began, and he feels privileged to have played alongside those who had been at the club for more than two decades. He also said that he felt privileged to have captained the club during their growing stage and while they were so successful over the previous 20 years. Forbes father is Bruce, the BCC chairperson. The player added that while it’s sad to say goodbye, he knows that he’s left his teammates in a good place and that they will continue to make him and his old club proud.

How it Happened

Forbes said that the move had become official earlier in 2021 when he inked the deal with his new club. He said that his numbers were always out there, and that an agent approached him and that he had clubs interested in him. From that point, Forbes decided that it was a wonderful opportunity for him to achieve his long-term Irish cricket aspirations.

The one-time frontman of Boksburg, who also previously studied at the University of Pretoria, will continue his studies at Canford School, which is among the top independent institutes in the UK.
