Cricket Run Rate Calculator: current rate & score scenario

Sports24hour reference desk · reviewed 23 October 2026. Calculations stay in your browser.

Use the team score and legal overs already completed to calculate its current scoring rate. The optional innings quota creates a constant-rate arithmetic scenario, not a prediction or DLS target.

Enter your figures to calculate.

How current run rate is calculated

Run rate = total team runs × 6 ÷ legal balls used. A score of 100 after 12.4 overs means 76 legal balls, so the current run rate is 600 ÷ 76 = 7.89 runs per over. The .4 represents four legal balls, not four tenths of an over.

Current, required and net run rate

Measure Question it answers Tool
Current How quickly has this team scored so far? This page
Required What rate is needed to reach a chase target? Required run rate
Net How does aggregate scoring rate compare with conceding rate? Net run rate

What the projected score means

At 100 after 12.4 in a 20-over allocation, 44 legal balls remain. Keeping exactly the same rate gives a mathematical total of about 157.89, displayed as 157 whole runs. This is not a likely final score: wickets, bowling changes, the batter’s approach and match interruptions are not modeled. Do not project an innings that has already ended.

Should I include extras?

For the team’s current rate, use total team runs including extras. For an individual batter’s strike rate use only runs credited to that batter.

Does an all-out innings use the full quota here?

No. Current rate uses the actual legal balls used. The full-quota convention for an all-out innings belongs to tournament NRR calculations, not this current-rate calculation.

Can this determine a revised rain target or qualification margin?

No. It calculates a current scoring rate and a constant-rate scenario only. Use official revised targets, standings and competition rules for those decisions.
