Finally Defending champions sri lanka start well by registering first victory in the opening game against afghanistan on yesterday 17 March which was played in Eden Garden Kolkata. Sri Lanka won by 6 wickets this game against Afghanistan with 7 balls spare. For the brilliant batting performance of 83 run Dilshan Given the man of the match award.

After win the toss by the afghanistan skipper Stanikzai they elect to bat first. Afghanistan in the first bat scored 153/7 in the 20 overs time. from Afghanistan team Captain Stanikzai scored 62 runs in 47 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes while in the end Shenwari scored quickfire innings of 31 runs in 14 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes help team to put a challenging score on the board against the struggling sri lanka team. From Sri Lanka Perera picks 3 wickets while Herath took 2 wickets on their 4 overs spells. Mathews and Kulasekara took a one wickets each.

In reply of 154 run target, sri lanka started well. make a first wickets partnership for 41 runs and then they remove the dinesh chandimal in the sixth overs but after then Dilshan who guided their team to victory as some of the players from other side out but they stay on the crease and play good shots against afghanistan bowlers as specially against spinners because bowls are turning but playing with merit of the bowl and guided the team to victory.
