Cricket is one of the most popular sports that receive utmost support from fans from around the world. One of the countries that show deep love for the sport is India. As a popular cricket nation, it is undeniable that the country has produced a lot of impressive cricket players throughout the years.

Although cricket may not be the national sport of India, their passion and dedication remain remarkable. Aside from ranking well on international matches, they have also hosted a league event which became one of the most prestigious cricket tournaments in the world. This is the Indian Premier League or the IPL.

The IPL is a T20 tournament among eight teams who represent their respective cities. Aside from showcasing the talents and the athleticism of their local players, what makes the IPL more remarkable is how they are also open to including international players. With its immense popularity, there are a lot of people who try to place a cricket – bet with crypto or fiat on their favourite bookmakers.

As much as the IPL matches remain heated up, the Indian BCC has decided to postpone the IPL once again because of the ongoing surge of COVID-19 cases in the country.

The reason behind the suspension

India is currently dealing with a difficult COVID-19 situation. Despite being held in a biosecure bubble, several IPL players had tested positive for the virus. To ensure the safety of all players and staff, India Cricket decided to postpone the remainder of the 2021 season to prevent further virus spread.

The suspension

The Indian BCC made their decision by keeping the welfare of its stakeholders in mind. As much as they would want to push through, they know that it would be best to postpone the tournament just like how they did it last year.

A part of the official BCCI statement read, ‘The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind’.

‘These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times. The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021’, the statement added.

In their statement, the Indian BCC also thanked everyone who helped them during IPL 2021.

The reaction of the players

After the announcement was made, some players were confused if the season was put to a halt. Then, the Indian BCC ensured that the league was just postponed and not cancelled. They also made it clear that the league will still push through in due time.

Aside from that, a few players, especially the international ones, have already expressed their intentions to leave the country. As per Indian BCC vice-president Rajeev Shukla, some players have already confided with their franchise.

The current status of the teams

As the league becomes postponed, the BCCI will have to pause the progress of the teams. Here is a closer look at the current ranking of the teams on the points table.

  1. Delhi Capitals
  2. Chennai Super Kings
  3. Royal Challengers Bangalore
