Herath named skipper of Srilanka for Bangladesh Test series 2017


38 Years old Rangana Herath who has been named as Skipper of Sri Lanka Cricket team for the upcoming Bangladesh Test series 2017. This news announced on 28th February Tuesday.

Regular skipper of sri lanka cricket team Angelo Mathews who misses out this test series against bangladesh 2017 due to Hamstring injury. Team included Malinda Pushpakumara one of the talented young left arm spinners in the squad.

Srilanka board said, “He (Herath) has taken on the challenge of leading the team through the two Test series against the Bangladeshi team,”


“Slow left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara has been included in the Test squad,” the release added. “Pushpakumara first represented the Sri Lanka A team in 2012 when he faced South Africa and Zimbabwe during a triangular tournament and made an appearance for the Sri Lanka A team in 2015 against Pakistan.”

Pushpakumara who have shown great performance in the warm up match aainst england lions by picking 13 wickets by giving 205 runs. The left-armer has 29 first-class wickets at 26.17 for Sri Lanka A, while amassing 558 first-class wickets at an average of 19.85.

Herath who done earlier captaincy job when Sri lanka tour of Zimbabwe in November 2016 and on that occasion they won by 2-0. on the other side Bangladesh who only three victory in the test cricket since debut in the Test cricket around 17 years.

If we look at the past meetings between this two sides, Sri lanka won a two match test series by 1-0 as team won by first test with 248 runs while secone one snatch draw.

As per Schedule First Test Match between Sri lanka vs Bangladesh played on Galle on 7th March while second test played on 15th March in Colombo.
